Kyla grew up in North Delta, and started dancing at the age of four at Surrey Dance Centre. She trained in all genres of dance and loved attending as many competitions as possible. Kyla’s passion for dance, and Ballet in particular, continued to grow as she trained six days a week. For two seasons, Kyla performed with the Royal City Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker. Kyla grew up studying the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet and passed the Grades 1-6, Senior Certificate, and the Intermediate major exam. When she was 15, her love of dance took her to New York City to train for four years at the Joffrey Ballet School. While at Joffrey, Kyla had the chance to dance lead roles in Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, Swan Lake, Serenade, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Le Corsaire. Kyla also took part in showcases put on by EMIA Dance and Sans Limites Dance Collective while in New York. Since graduating with a Certificate in Dance, Kyla has performed with the Yellowpoint Christmas Spectacular, Ballet Kelowna, CollabArt Creations, Coastal City Ballet, DansArts et al., and her own performing company, Coupé Dance & Co. Kyla holds a Bachelor of General Studies in Education from Simon Fraser University, and has been teaching dance for seven years in the Lower Mainland. Kyla is thrilled to have opened her own dance studio last season! She loves sharing her passion for dance with her students, enjoys seeing them improve, and wants to continue to pass on the magical feeling that she feels while dancing on stage.
